Frequency Distribution TI-84 | TI-83 Example

Joestat wants you to to create a frequncy distribution using your TI-84 or TI-83 calculator.  Joestat wants you to enter the data into L2 and L3.

  • First, enter the data into your

  • Second, create a TI-84 Histogram.
    Instructions are available on how to create a Histogram TI-84 | TI-83 Example with a class width of 1.
  • Third trace the histogram and record the data into a frequency distribution.

    1. Record what is being traced.  If you followed the Histogram TI-84 | TI-83 Example then:
      Min=”#” is the data value and N=”#” is the data value’s respected frequency.

      Data Value Frequency
      1 3
      2 2
      3 1
      4 4
      5 1
      6 2
      7 2
      8 3
      9 2
  • Now enter that data into L2, L3.

Congratulations, in this example you have created a relative frequency distribution using your TI83 or TI84 calculator.

    Very useful, thanks.

    Is there a way to have the frequency automatically fill L3?

    I’m doing many different plots and would love to skip that step of manually record the frequency from the histogram.

    • Unfortunately, this is the best method that I am aware of. If there is enough interest, I could look into creating a program in the future. Unfortunately, my time has been extremely limited and I am currently working on more tutorials to complement the upcoming term. If you find a method in the meantime, please let us know.
