Class Width Formula

Class Width = (Max(value) - Min(value))/(Number of Classes)

Use this formula when the you have to construct a frequency distribution, histogram, relative frequency histogram, frequency polygon, ogive, etc when the class width is not given.  If the result doesn’t make sense, guess accordingly based on the result of the class width formula.

To use your calculator to do the calculations click on Class Width TI-84 | TI-83 Example.
