1-Var Stats TI-84 | TI-83 Example

Joestat wants you to use 1-Var Stat command to calculate the descriptive statistics.  First Joestat wants you to calculate the descriptive statistics as if the data represented the population.  Second Joestat wants you to calculate the descriptive statistics as if the data represented a sample.  Round to 2 decimal places in both examples.  If no rounding value is given, round to one decimal point greater the actual data.  Use your TI-83 or TI-84 calculator.

Store the following data set in L1:
{1, 2, 5, 4, 9, 4, 3, 1, 4, 6, 8, 7, 9, 6, 4, 8, 2, 1, 8, 7}

  • Enter the data into your TI-83 or TI-84 calculator
    Instructions are available on the how to create a list TI-84 | TI-83.
  • Use 1-Var Stats on your TI-83 or TI-84 calculator
    (Replace L1 with the list the data is stored in)

Example 1: Find the Descriptive Statistics when the data set represents a Sample using your TI-83 or TI-84 calculator.

  • Sample mean
    Sample Mean \bar{x} \approx 4.95 TI-84
  • Sample standard deviation
    Our Sample Standard Deviation is latex S_x \approx 2.74 TI-84
  • Sample size.
    Our Population Size or N is 20
  • Minimum value of the sample
    X min for Sample
  • Q1 of the Sample
    Q1 or Quarter One of the sample size is 2.5 TI-84
  • Median of the sample
    Median of the sample size = 3.4 TI-84
  • Q3 of the sample
    The Q3 or Quarter 3 of the sample = 4.5 TI-84
  • Maximum value of the sample
    The Maximum Value of the sample = 9
  • Sample variance
    Sample Varience is 7.52 TI-84

  • Median of the population
    Our Median for the population is 4.5
  • Q3 of the population
    Our Quarter 3 or Q3 for the population is 4.5
  • Maximum value of the population
    The Maximum Value of the sample = 9
  • Population variance
    Our population variance is approximately 7.15 ti-83
    Use 1-Var Stats
