Joestat wants you to use 1-Var Stat command to calculate the descriptive statistics. First Joestat wants you to calculate the descriptive statistics as if the data represented the population. Second Joestat wants you to calculate the descriptive statistics as if the data represented a sample. Round to 2 decimal places in both examples. If no rounding value is given, round to one decimal point greater the actual data. Use your TI-83 or TI-84 calculator.
Store the following data set in L1:
{1, 2, 5, 4, 9, 4, 3, 1, 4, 6, 8, 7, 9, 6, 4, 8, 2, 1, 8, 7}
- Enter the data into your TI-83 or TI-84 calculator
Instructions are available on the how to create a list TI-84 | TI-83. - Use 1-Var Stats on your TI-83 or TI-84 calculator
(Replace L1 with the list the data is stored in)

Example 1: Find the Descriptive Statistics when the data set represents a Sample using your TI-83 or TI-84 calculator.
- Sample mean

- Sample standard deviation

- Sample size.

- Minimum value of the sample

- Q1 of the Sample

- Median of the sample

- Q3 of the sample

- Maximum value of the sample

- Sample variance

Use 1-Var Stats
| [STAT] | [RIGHT] | [ENTER] | [2nd] | [ 1 ] | [ENTER] |
Follow it up to calculate the sample variance
| [VARS] | [ 5 ] | [ 3 ] | [x^2] | [ENTER] |

Example 2, let the data set represent the population.
Calculate the:
- Population mean

- Population standard deviation

- Population size.

- Minimum value of the population

- Q1 of the Population

- Median of the population

- Q3 of the population

- Maximum value of the population

- Population variance

Use 1-Var Stats
| [STAT] | [RIGHT] | [ENTER] | [2nd] | [ 1 ] | [ENTER] |
Follow it up to calculate the population variance
| [VARS] | [ 5 ] | [ 4 ] | [x^2] | [ENTER] |
Congratulations, in this example you have learned how to computer descriptive statistics for a sample and population using the 1-Var Stat in your TI-83 or TI-84 calculator.

This made the 1-Var Stat function on my TI84 clear. Thanks for reminding me the difference between the symbols. It helped a lot, as I forgot which was which.
